Wally
grew up living with his parents, but one year around Thanksgiving
his mother suddenly died. As Christmas came near, his father
also suddenly passed away, and so Wally became a ward of the
state and was placed into an Adult Foster Care home where he
lived for years.
When
I met Wally he was very friendly and inviting to me. He would
greet me with a warm handshake and tell me that I was a "good
friend." Every week he loved to sing the
worship songs and hear the Word of God. He insisted on finding
the pages of the hymns himself and was too proud to let someone
help him.
One
morning the manager of his home found him still in his bed--he
had peacefully passed away in the night. I had the honor
of officiating his memorial service for the residents of his
adult foster care home. Everyone in his home had lost a friend,
but they rejoiced that Wally had been received into eternity
by the gracious hands of Jesus.
